Leo Schotter 90 aastat sünnist

Leo Schotter (1917- 1997) oli tunnustatud silmaarst, leiutaja, helilooja.

Ta sündis Moskvas arstide perekonnas.

Pärast Tartu Riikliku Ülikooli lõpetamist 1947. töötas ta Tartu silmakliinikus eri ametkohtadel vanemlaborandist professorini-kateedrijuhatajani.

1961.a Eesti NSV teeneline arst, 1964. a kaitses ta doktoridissertatsiooni silmasiseste võõrkehade magnetkirurgia alal, 1967.aastast professor.

Ta juhatas 1975-90 a silma- ja kõrva-nina-kurguhaiguste ühendkateedrit.Hlijem valiti ta Eesti Silmaarstide Seltsi ja Eesti Pimedate Ühingu auliikmeks.

Ta oli ka helilooja, olles umbes 40 helitöö autor

Leo Schotter tegeles kõigi oftalmoloogia valdkondade arendamisega Eestis. tema teaduslikud huvid seostusid enam silmavigastuste ravi, plastikakirurgia, sarvkesta siirdamise, katarakti ja glaukoomi ravi problemaatikaga.

Leo Schotter oli leiutaja, mitmeski mõttes oma ajast ees.

Leo Schotter

Leo Schotter (1917- 1997) was a noted eye doctor – 90 years from birth. 19 MARS, inventor, composer. He was born in Moscow into a family of doctors.

After graduating from the National University of Tartu in 1947 he worked in Tartu Eye Clinic. He started out as a lab assistant and worked his way up to become a professor and the director of cathedra. In 1964 he presented his doctor’s dissertation about the magnetic surgery of foreign bodies in the eye and in 1967 he was named professor. He was the head of both Eye Clinic and Ear, Nose and Throat Clinic from 1975 to 1990. Later he was named the honorary member of both The Assosiation of Estonias Eye Doctors  and The Association of Estonias Blind People.

He was also a composer with approximately 40 compositions in his name.

Leo Schotter was involved in developing almost every aspects of ophthalmology in Estonia. His scientific interests included the treatment of eye injuries, plastic surgery, implantation of cornea, cataract and glaucoma treatment.

Leo Schotter was an inventor and in many ways quite ahead of his time.

We remember him on his 90th birthday.
